Tailus & Navicular Possible Fracture in Down Syndrome Patient

Dr. Abrams:
I have just returned from seeing my own personal podiatrist for my son who is 26 and has Downs Syndrome. MRI report concludes possible fracture in the tailus but could possibly by a contusion. We are erring on the side of caution and treating for a fracture. however, my son's balance is poor and I do not feel the 2nd generation castboot is for him. I am searching the internet for other options. His only sport is bowling in which he excels. We are trying to find something that will support him, but not cause additional balance problems. Do you have any suggestions? Have looked at Corflex planter fasciitis night splints but they are not recommended for weight bearing. Can you help or point me in the right direction? What about some type of device that is flatter than the 'moonboot' and doesn't have that 'rockabout motion'. Awaiting your reply. Thank you for your help. Diane in Pennsylvania
