Screw removal after bunionectomy

In October 2001, I had bilateral bunionectomies. In a few weeks I am having the screws used to straighten the big toes removed. (The screws protrude from the bone and rub on the inside of most of my shoes, causing considerable pain.) Any potential problems if I undergo this procedure with local anethesia and perhaps an ankle block? It is my preference not to go with general anesthesia.
