Re: Toenail removed

: About 5 weeks ago, I had my toenail removed. It is staying swollen & red & not healing up right. The one on the other foot was removed in 2000 by the same doctor & it healed up real good. He gave me the usual low-dose antibiotics, cream & soaking directions. The toe hurts terribly sometimes & at times feels like I'm being touched with a branding iron. When I went back for another weekly follow-up this past Tuesday, he put me on Cipro as the toe did not look any better.
: Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Bonnie, you did not say but did you have the permanent removal? If so, it is possible that you have a nail spicule...part of the nail is growing back and shouldn't be. Has the doctor explored the area? The Cipro should help the infection but you have to check the underlying cause.

Good luck!
