Jones fracture, fifth metarsal

Hi,
On March 2, I broke my 5th metatarsal, and yes, it is a jones fracture. I went to a podiatrist and he told me to come back in 3 weeks and he would check it. I was not too happy with that so I made an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon. He told me about a screw he could put in to fix the fracture and so that also it will union properly and more quickly. I just want another opinion, I have a darco foot shoe on with an ace bandage. I do not like the cam cast. It hurts my calf and is very unstable to walk in, (I almost fell twice). The darco shoe with the ace bandage dont hurt my foot and I can walk right. Is it better to let the fracture heal on its own, or should I have the screw put in for a better chance? I am a 51 year old female, with osteoporosis. Thanks Angel
