Doctors vary with how they treat many things. I can only tell you what we do and by no means is that the ONLY way to do it. After a nail surgery, we have patients use a salt water mixture poured over the bandage 3-4 times daily. The wetter the better. AFter we allow them to dress it daily with a topical antibiotic such as Neosporin (but this too can vary depending on various factors) We advise patients to keep the healing wound covered and protected until it is well, and that too can vary from several weeks to months depending on the individual.
You mother should return to the doctor who did her surgery and have it looked at.
