Lateral foot injury

One week ago today, as I was stepping out my front door, my foot rolled inward and I fell hard. The pain was excruciating and my vision blurred to the point where I thought I would pass out. With much difficulty, I was able to hobble for help.

By the time I got to the ER (45-50 min after fall) my ankle was the size of a golf ball and one inch below the ankle was another golf ball sized lump. The majority of my pain was from the side of the foot, rather then the ankle.

X-rays were clear. Iced and elevated foot for 2 days. Foot turned black and blue on lateral side and top of foot before toes 3 days ago. Ankle and foot are still slightly swollen but mobility is improving.

I can push on ankle bone w/o any pain, but while I walk (and when I sit down after being on feet) or touch the side of foot, it aches.

Could the xray have missed something? How long should I wait or what symptoms should I have before going back to the doctor?

Sorry so long!
