Re: Haglund's Bump

Depending on how big the bump on the back of your calcaneus (heel bone) is, there might be a pad or there might not be. If you have had Xrays made of your foot in several different views, one can get a better perspective. Silipos makes an Achilles tendon pad that many of my patients with a posterior heel problem use. Not everyone responds to conservative treatment, and I would guess your doctor has discussed surgery with you as an option.

The continued discomfort is from the snapping of the Achilles tendon over the bony prominence. Frequently, there is an associated bursitis. I am not an advocate of injecting this area with steroids, although I know other doctors who do so. There is an inherent risk of the Achilles tendon rupturing after injections of cortisone.

Sorry I can't be more help from my end.
