cheilectomy for hallux rigidus

I'm wondering what the most common incision point is for this surgery as my doctor made the cut on the side of the foot and most accounts I've seen the cut is made on the top of the toe. My range of motion is much better and the original pain is gone, but there is still numbness and tingling and pain in the tip of the toe. This is 6 months after surgery?
