rear heel bone spurs

My mother is 53 and has boney growths on the rear area of her heels. She has gone to 1 arthritic doctor but because we live in Hawaii it is difficult to have specialists from Honolulu come to the big island on a regular basis. She experiences extreme pain in her rear heel area and sometimes when walking up a slight inclime has a ripping or tearing sensation on the back of herr heel area. I have looked on the internet and tryed to find information on this area of the foot but can only find it for the bottom of the heel {plantar fasciitis} area. Her doctor said that these were bone spurs and when looking at the x-ray you can see "spur" like protusion sticking out. if you are able to tell me anything at all it would be greatly appreciated. this has been an ongoing problem for about 8 years and has gotten worse over time. She is overwieght and has arthrits. It is especially painful after sitting or walking and in the morning after she gets out of be. I thank you for your time and any help you may be able to offer. If you should know of any information you have my permission to pass on my email address. Thank you so much Courtney.
