: I recently had my big toenail removed how long can i expect for it to grow back. he took the entire nail of but said it will come back but never gave me a idea how how long this would take

Hi Kelly,

Generally it takes 9 to 12 months for a toenail to grow out entirely. In a month or two you will start noticing the nail to grow. The surgical site itself will start to heal over in the next several weeks. You should keep it covered and protected until it is no longer draining.

If you continue to have concerns, return to your doctor.

Good luck!
