Dr. Abrams, in July I sustained a Jones Fracture and had surgery shortly thereafter. The podiatrist used a K-Wire to repair the break and I subsequently went to an orthopedic specialist for my follow-up visits (I was on vacation at the time of the break-out of town). The fracture healed nicely occurring the Dr. and I have recently gone back to work. I work for UPS and am on my feet approximately nine hours a day walking, while lifting parcels. After four months now, I still have a fair amount of swelling in my foot. I'm wearing a shoe one size bigger than I normally use for comfort. Should I expect this swelling to continue for a long time? Additionally, after surgery the orthopedic specialist told me that one of the K-Wires was not in the bone (located under the foot). The Dr. kept a close eye on the wire to see if it would be necessary to remove them, but felt that it would not cause a problem. Is it possible that that could be causing some of my continued swelling? The second Dr. did not seem to be a big K-Wire fan and preferred the use of the fixation screw method. Do you have any preference? I have another follow-up visit in about three weeks.
Thanks for your imput,
