Fractured Heel

July 2005, I fell 40feet from a rope swing landing into rocks. I was diagnosed in late August with a fractured heel. Over the past couple months I've been experiencing difficulites from this injury. My doctor wants to go in and fix up my heel with pins and such to relieve all my problems and the risk of severe arthritis at my age (21). When this surgery is performed with pins and such... is there a hospital stay to make sure everything is ok or is it outpatient? And the pins stay in for life right? I've heard some people say that they've had them removed.

Thank you!
