Heel/Achilles pain with brisk walking

hi -

Two days ago I went for a walk (wearing New Balance running shoes) on a bike path near where I live. I walked briskly for about 25 minutes and on a slight incline. My right Achilles tendon began to feel very stiff. I had to continue walking until I could reach a bus stop which was about another 20 minutes. I took a bus home. The discomfort subsided but returned last night when I was walking in a mall. I have been icing it off and on since then and taking ibuprofen. It started to ache a bit last night.

I wear flip flops all summer and tried light jogging earlier this summer. I jogged about 1 - 1.5 miles about 6-8 times in June. My right foot has a vague weak sensation on the top right side of the foot when I first get out of bed in the morning which has been happening for about 1.5 - 2 months. I have not run since June and do not plan to ever run again!

I am 45 and swim about 1/2 to 1 mile about 3 days a week, bike and walk often. I do yoga and stretch also. Can you please advise me if I need to see a doctor or just lay off it and ice it for a while?

thanks!
