broken 5th success ?

I have a fracture at the base of the 5th metatarsal, I have had no weight bearing and a bone stimulator for 5 weeks, I go back next week for x-rays. The doctor seemed to be very confident that I would not need surgery because it was not broken from end to end only halfway? does that make sense? anyhow has anyone had a successful healing without surgery?
