5 broken metatarsal bones

Hi, My hsuband broke all5 metatarsal bones on 5/14/06.
Since then, he has been in a compession cast, then a fiberglass cast, and surgery on the 1st? metatarsal bone (the big toe). After surgery he had another type of cast, like a splint with ace bandages. Now he is in a fiberglass cast for another 3 weeks. Then finally a walking cast. His foot still swells when he has it down for a while. He has broken many bones in his life, but this one has been a slow process. Is this normal? Thanks so much, Denise

Lined with soft fabric on both sides, this ~2mm thick SiliposŪ proprietary gel pad is an excellent cushion to help relieve the burning sensation and discomfort of the five metatarsal heads of the foot (the ball-of-foot) by protecting the ball of foot from repeated friction and abrasion with the shoes.
