numb and tingling feet

I've been experiencing some pain in my feet for a couple of months. I have heel pain that hurts when I walk, but what worries me most is that my left foot is numb and tingles on the lateral aspect of the sole. When I touch or scratch the area it sends a tingling sensation up into my 4th and 5th toes. Occassionally I experience a numb and tingling feeling in my big toe.
I don't recall any injury. I also have no to little arch. I buy a good quality running shoes (Aasics GT-2100).
Any advice you can provide is appreciated.
