Lump on foot

Hey,

I've had pain in my foot for the past few years and there's a definite lump at the side of my foot about where i think the base of 5th metatarsal is. It's not very large but the side of my foot is discoloured and warm. It really sticks out when i spread my toes out. Although i guess the fact that i can do that must mean it is nothing serious, right?

Any ideas what it could be please let me know. I'm having a lot of trouble getting shoes that don't press on it. Thanks a lot
