Ugly toddler toenails

My 4 yr old has the ugliest toenails and I'm afraid she's going to have her grandfather's toenails which are really really gross (thick, yellow, peeling and generally gross... he goes to a podiatrist who cuts them but has not attempted to make them better and I'm afraid they can't be made better). My daughter's big toe toenails are a weird shape... they don't go straight across and they curl up when not cut. Tonight I noticed the pinky toenail (which is tiny) is all cracked looking... picture a shattered windshield. Is this normal? Might they grow in nicer? Is there anything I can do, espec for the big toe?

A silicone insert on the back of the Achillotrain leaves tendon pressure-free and provides intermittent compression for the reduction of swelling and edema.
