weight bearing on broken foot

About 11 weeks ago, I broke the second, third, and fourth metatarsal bones in my left foot. I have seen 2 doctors about this injury: an orthopaedic surgeon, and a podiatrist. I am currently in a walking boot. These 2 doctors have very differing opinions. The podiatrist thinks I should still be on crutches. The orthopaedic surgeon thinks that weight bearing induces healing, and that I should be placing weight on my broken foot and should even be starting to wear stiff-soled shoes. Who do you think is right?
Thanks for any advice.

A layer of gel combined with a foot cover to help protect metatarsals and toes from friction and pressure. It also ideal for cushioning the ball of foot and provides warmth for people suffering from arthritis or poor circulation to the toes.
