severe pain in right foot

I have unbearable pain in my right foot,seems to be in the joint of my little toe and metatarsal.I can be walking along not in any pain and suddenly the sharp pain appears. I cannot walk when this occurs,it feels like a knife has been stuck in the joint.but I can't push on the area and cause the pain.Its worse when i take all weight off of it. your thoughts would be appretiated.
