Re: Hammertoe surgery

I had hammertoe surgery on my left big toe (fusion of the joint), my second toe, and my little toe. It's been about 7 months since the surgery and the swelling has gone down in the 2nd and last (5th) digit toes, but the big toe remains swollen. Is there anything I can do? My doctor told me that swelling can result from 6-12 months after surgery. He also said there is a chance that the swelling in the big toe may NEVER go down! Is this true, and if so, what can I do to reduce the swelling? Just keep my toe elevated, steroid injection? My doctor also said ice at this point was futile! Thanks a lot, and please get back to me soon!
