swollen toes

This is the 2nd time within 2 months that I have had problems with my toes. I have never had problems before. The first time I thought it was athletes foot and treated it with cream. It took a few weeks to go away. This time it's back, red bumps on a few toes that hurt and are itchy. The thing is my toe next to the little one is really swollen and hurts to touch. I've now been treating my toes for over 2 weeks and nothing has changed. Like I said, I've never had problems and nothing has changed i.e shoes, socks....

Any ideas? Gout?
