: I can answer your very good questions only in very general terms. When I discuss the surgery and the post op course with a patient, I address these issues in detail. There are different bunion procedures that might require different management. I do not know what you are having done, so I can't be sure what to tell you.
: I do not let my patients touch the bandage at all. That means no getting the feet wet until I say so. It again depends on the procedure and the way the patient is responding. After many but not all bunion surgeries, I use a removable cast brace with velcro straps. This helps protect the feet. Some patients find it useful to use crutches, others walkers.
