Mine turned out to be a plantar's wart. Because thick calloused skin grew above it, I had no idea and would have never suspected if the Dr. hadn't told me. The wart was actually quite small and deep in the heel.
It's hard to get rid of - I had to cut off the dry skin with a razor, then freeze the wart several times over six months.
