Normally, the toenail can take approximately 1 year to grow from the root to the end of the toe. When there is an injury though the body speeds things up. As far as telling you it will be normal, I can't. Only time will tell. If the root of the nail was damaged, then it will grow back differently. If not then in a afew weeks you will see the beginning of the nail growing. Keep it covered and protected until it is no longer sensitive and appears healed up.

If you are still concerned, I recommend you see a podiatrist for further information.
