nerve pain on outside of heel

For the last month I have some occasional nerve pain in my left heel. Last night it was suddenly almost overwhelming, where the repeated and severe jolts occurred over 7 hours.

The pain is localized on the outside of my left heel and behind the ankle bone. It is a sharp jabbing pain the can come in repeated bursts within a minute or just a jab every 5 to 10 minutes. When the pain comes, it is sometimes so intense in my heel, that my whole body jerks. Foot position and activity do not seem to have a direct effect on the pain.

Last night, I finally tried elevation, repeated ice and repeated ibuprofen. I found some relief so that I could get some sleep, but this morning it is back.

I have been wearing rather old unsupported shoes for the last six months. That could be part of the problem, which I am correcting today.

If I can't continue to control the intensity of the pain, I will have to go to urgent care this weekend. I hope someone can shed some light on this pain.

The Shin Splint Compression Wrap applies gentle pressure on soft tissue next to the tibia (shin bone), helping prevent additional tearing of the soft tissue away from the tibia. Compression not only reduces additional damage, it alleviates pain and enhances the healing process.
