Severs Disease in son

Hello. My 19 year old son was diagnosed as a young boy with Severs disease in his feet. He was treated throughout his teen years with boots, casts, etc. as the disease flared up in his heels. In the last 6-9 months he was gained about 60lbs (He is 6ft 2in and now weight 300lbs. He has started a job as a restaraunt manager and is on his feet for 9-10 hours. His heels have begun to hurt him terribly just like when his Severs Disease was active. His heels are swollen, it hurts to touch any of the area's around his heel and all of his symptoms are exactly as they are stated in Severs Disease. What would you suggest he do to treat this as his growth plate should have already solidified? He is on a diet to lose weight.
Are there any cases of adults who had the disease as children to continue to have problems with their heels after they have surpassed the age of solidification in their growth plates?
