broken foot

hello, I work in construction and yesterday a 350 pound tail-gait from a small dump truck fell on my foot breaking the 2nd 3rd and 4th metatarsal bones in my right foot. My Dr. gave me a soft cast because he wants to make sure there is no soft tissue damage also I'm taking Vioxx, and aspirin to prevent blood clots and says I have to stay off it for a couple weeks. I have to go back on monday so he can look at it, today I feel a lot better and don't think there is tissue damage so my first question is if there is no other damage will I be fit with a hard cast? Also I'm self employed and have a son so I need to get back to work ASAP. I'm 31 and in very good shape so how can I gauge when I go back? Are there "walking casts" for an injury like this? My son is 19 months and needs to be picked up now and then but these crutches are making it impossible to do so. Thanks for your help
