bone spur under archilles tendon, both feet

I have had a bone spur on the back of my left heel for a couple of years (I actually have had one in the back of my right heel as well for 10 - 12 years) The left has gotten progressively worse. Physical therapy, anti-inflamitories and restriction of movement have not helped. I resorted to extra-corpial shock wave therapy as it has a reasonably good record on the bottom of the heel. I knew it was experimental, but was assured that there could be no adverse effects because it was non-invasive. WRONG. It is more painful than before, very much more sensitive to touch than before and it was imobilized for 4 weeks. What are my options now?
