pain in the big toe (great hallux)

I had a procedure called a winnograd hallux about 2 months ago on the right big toe. Since I have had nothing but extreme pain and still can't get into a closed toe shoe. Do you know of anything that may help? I had a family doctor tell me to ask about putting it in a cast for a few weeks...could this help?

Thank You for your time.
