Inflamed Tarsals

I am not sure that my question got through as I don't see it posted yet.
I am back to work as a Nurses Aid after a years haitus. After a week of work I find that the flesh on the Tarsals..Not the metatarsals..is hot, inflamed, sore and when I place a finger on the spot and wiggle my toes I can feel a "squeaking". I cannot identify the problem on other sites. It feels like a carpal tunnel injury but the only thing I can find about carpal tunnel and the foot is in the side, near the bottom of the foot. Any ideas what is going on? I did put ice on it which calmed it down, but it is far from cured.
