There certainly could be a biomechanical reason that you are hurting. Another idea could be a sural nerve entrapment. Neither a bone scan or MRI would show either.
Depending where you hurt on the 5th met, the base holds the insertion of the peroneus brevis tendon. There could be a problem with it. The cuboid could be a potential source of trouble also.

These are some of the thoughts I would have but a further examination would be most helpful.
