possible outcomes? broken tibia

Hi,

3 weeks ago I fell down some steps and broke the lower
part of my tibia (in the ankle joint, close to the maleous sp)

I've had 2 weeks of none weight baring pt. And go back
to have it re x-rayed. The doctor said that if the bone wasn't healing right I would have to have surgery.

Could you tell me what a typical treatment would be if
it is healing right? Will I be able to start walking again right away? I realize that my case is different and you can't give me an exact answer...

Thank you for your time.
