Toe nail torn off when toe was stubbed

I stubbed my toe and the nail lifted completely from the bed, The nail root is the only thing left intact.
I flushed it with peroxide, forced some Neosporin under the nail, and applied a large Band-Aid fairly snug to press the nail onto the bed. What else can be done? Also, must I see an physician, and if so, my general Practioner or a foot doctor. This happend on the Labor Day Weekend. My MD is unavailable.
Thanks in advance for your help.
