Dull ache fracture?

I fractured my big toe about 3 weeks ago, of course it is still swollen.

I am just curious to know if I should be getting a dull ache in the toe???

I am also worried that I can turn the fracture into a break if I am not careful, how possible is that?

Sorry to sound dumb with my simple questions its just I dont know what to expect.
