Tender Vein on top of foot

I have had pain on top of my foot for several weeks. It is the spot where the vein is. It is not hot or swollen but very sensitive to touch. Nothing can be put near the area. The pain is relieved with advil and heat. My foot doctor told me it was an injury and will get better. Should I get a second opinion or see if it is relieved? Thanks so much for any advice you can give me,.
