Painful burning feet

My feet burn like fire on the ball of both of my feet when I walk. It does not burn when sitting. I have tried several different socks and different leather shoes and tennis shoes. I have also tried insole liners. Nothing relieves it. I am not a diabetic, and never been an alcoholic. I am 68 years old and have had the burning sensations about a year and it seems to be getting worse. My feet do not sweat and are hot too touch. I do not have athletes feet and there are no blisters or lesions on my feet. I do not have swelling and the color is normal fleshtone. The burning feels like its under the skin. I do not have high blood pressure. I am taking synthroid and lipitor. I regularly have the levels checked. These are the only medications that I take. Other than hypothyroidism and high cholesterol I have no other health problems. Would this burning be a side effect of these meds? What causes this and how can it be cured or relieved.
