Sprain, fracture, bruise???

I dropped a aliuminiun ladder on my foot, rather heavy, was a sudden pain enough to use a few generous swear words but the pain calmed within a couple of minutes.
This happened about 4 days ago.
No Bruise is really coming through at the moment however it feels as if it is bruised.
My concern is... Could I have fractured it, is it that easy to fracture.
I have fractured my big toe not so long ago and the pain in different.
Ladder hit the top front part of my foot, just back from all of my toes, more towards the big toe.
Bit of swelling and also some pain under the foot in the same area.
Painful if I push on it or put one of my usual shoes on.
Can walk on it without to much trouble.

Hope you can advice something, not sure if I should get an Xray.
