Follow up ? on my son's broken metatarsal

My son broke his 5th metatarsal a week ago. I took him to the Orthopedic on Monday, and he did not really do anything about it. He did not put him in a cast or boot, and I was wondering if something like that was necessary? The Dr. did say it was not a bad break. But I seem to think it needs to be in something more stable to heal. It is still really bruised and still has some swelling. He said he would be out of sports for 4-6 weeks, and that he could fit him with something that goes in his shoe when he does start playing. Does all of this sound right or should I seek a second opinion?
