Podiatrist vs. Orthopaedic surgeon

I have a swollen 4th left toe. Xrays indicate bone tumor (enchondroma or giant cell tumor), followup MRI is inconclusive (report says soft tissue abnormality). Do I need a podiatrist or an MD, and what are the advantages to each? Also, what institutions are considered leading edge in these kinds of issues? I live in the Midwest.
