l8 months baby walking on tip toes

Baby l8 months having treatment at Alder Hey Hospital, suspected shortened tendons. Been in cast, but allergic to fibreglass content which has caused infection. Now propose splints.
What is this treatment,
If tendons are stretched and she then walks normally, any long term implications?
