I don't see the harm in asking. It certainly would require the doctor's office to contact your insurance company and do a bit of work though. When I want one for my patient's I find the reps are very agreeable to come to the office and gather the information. It is a bit of a hassle, but (thankfully) I don't use many probably 1-2 a year on average.
