possible fracture

I stubbed the big toe on my left foot a couple years ago. Hurt like hell, but I shook it off as I was hosting a gathering with friends. I didn't have any problems with it in the immediate future, but since then I've experienced sharp pains where my foot stops and my toe begins. I don't have a problem when I walk, the pains just come and go at any given time every great now and then. Today though, it hurt so bad it woke me from a nap and wouldn't go away. I assumed if I broke anything it was prob just a hairline fracture that a doctor couldn't do much about anyhow. Should I pursue medical attention? BTW, I have no medical insurance. Thanks for your time. ~mary
