Ankle and Heel clicking

I play a number of sports and have since I was a kid. I'm 25 now and I have a "clicking" or "popping" in my left ankle. It's not really in the ankle as much as it's in my lower calf/heel like where the achilles tendon is. I can walk on it so i don't think it's a ruptured tendon, but It's fairly painful. Also, there is not really any bruising or swelling, but that's not unusual. I had shoulder surgery 9 months ago and even that really didn't swell or bruise too much. Any suggestions on what this might be?? Thank you so much for your help.
