Side of right foot, I fell

On July 4th, I was standing on a 1" high mat, at the bottom of steps, and was talking to my cousin. She went in the house, and I turned around and twisted my body and fell slowly on the sidewalk. I was wearing a pair of sandals with a buckle on the side. I fell to the right side and twisted my foot. I hurt like mad right away, and my husband and another man, helped me up, since I didn't want to apply any pressure on my foot. I haven't gone to the doctor or hospital. I heard 2 pops when I was falling. I now believe both were my knees, since I was twisting myself. My foot swelled a few hours later and the black and blue marks on the side of my foot are roaming. They were in the middle and now are in the back side underneath the ankle, and also slightly black and blue near my toes. I put ice on it for 3 days, off and on. I am trying to raise my foot for part of the day, it's impossible to stay off it. I'm also putting on an ace bandage and my shoe, and then I can walk better, with a limp. Since it's been 4 days and not getting any better, should I see a doctor or get an x-ray? Or is it just a bad sprain? I heard sprains are just as bad as broken bones. The area of extreme pain is on the side, near the knob that sticks out on both of my feet, not really sticks out, but you can feel it. Please let me know what I should do, and how long will this swelling and pain last approximately. Thank You!

This slip-on device is a soft and stretchable Nylon/Lycra® fabric molded with a proprietary gel pad to protect the entire Achilles tendon of the foot by absorbing pressure and friction resulted from rubbing with the surface of the shoe.
