bruised arch

A few weeks ago, I stepped barefoot onto one of those sliding closet door guides that are screwed into the floor. As luck would have it, I stepped squarely on it in the center of my arch. What a fun experience.

Anyway, I now have a bruise that's about 1.5" in diameter on the bottom of my foot. Perhaps more importantly, if I stand up and then bend over without bending my knee, I have severe pain in the rear portion of my heal. However, if I sit and bend my knee and then raise the front of my foot (so as to stretch my calf), there is little to no pain in my heel.

What do you think I did? What should I do for treatment? Is a podiatrist's involvement a good idea?
