The posterior process of the talus is called STieda's process. If it is a separate bone which occurs sometimes, it is called an os trigonum. There is a groove there that the flexor hallucis longus tendon runs through. If it is broken off or aggravated by an injury this can be a problem. Surgery is to remove or remodel the area. There will be a period of immobilization usually followed by physical therapy. Every doctor has their own regimen. You should discuss this further with your doctor.
Good luck getting back to your activities and hang in there!
