Damaged Toenail

I have a damaged nail on the big toe of my right foot which has gotten infected. I'm currently on my second run of antibiotics, and the nail is thickening. There is a bit of swelling under the nail which has caused the nail to lift slightly. Today I noticed I could lift the whole nail right back to the matrix like it was ready to fall off. But it is still attached back there. Should the nail be left on or would I be further ahead to remove it and expose the infected area? Also, should I be soaking it or keeping it dry? Thanks for your help.

This slip-on device is a soft and stretchable Nylon/Lycra® fabric molded with a proprietary gel pad to protect the entire Achilles tendon of the foot by absorbing pressure and friction resulted from rubbing with the surface of the shoe.
