There is much more information needed to even guess at a reason. Some things I would ask or observe is the patient's age, weight, job, activity, hobbies, family and social history, history of injury, medications, cause of symptoms, any response to treatment...

I recommend you see a podiatrist or orthopedist. If an x-ray is negative, a MRI might be the next step.
