ripped off toe nail

I ripped off my toe nail on the left big toe. It was ripped completely off but is still attatched some how?
i went to the doctor and he said that I should soak it and within a few days it should fall off on its own. The pain is nausiating. I have soaked it in epson salt and put neosporin and a non-stick pad and non-stick medical tape. what bothers me is the doctor didn't try to move the nail or anything to see how attatched it still is. Should i see another Dr.??
